Dialogue: Scene of the New Text: from Barcelona to Shanghai
How can a love story grow out through the facture of contemporary life?
Tu em vas prometre una història d’amor is from Sala Beckett/Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia. It does not rush to narrate a complete, classical and romantic love story; on the other hand, it starts from the encounters in the train cabins of Rome, Paris, and Poland, and weaves close relationships, desire, memories, relationship and writing itself together, inquiring how we can write love in the 21st century.
Starting from this play, this dialogue invites the Authorship Manager of Sala Beckett, the author of this play Helena Tornero, and the Programme Director of ACT Shanghai Contemporary Theatre Festival to have a discussion together. From the new writing tradition of Barcelona, to the contemporary theatre scene in front of Shanghai’s spectators, we will discuss how new texts can resonate with today’s living experience and how a work can be reperceived in different languages, cultures and audience-performance relationships, also how international collaboration can bring new issues, new methods and new imaginations to theatres.

Workshop After All
This event is an extension from the dance theatre After All. The workshop will be lead by writer, director and dancer Solène Weinachter. She will guide the participants into her unique practice in dance theatre—in the past 12 years, her works have always been wandering on the intersectional zone of dance, theatre, narratives, and humour.
The workshop regards ‘how the body holds memories, tells stories, and creates connections’ as its core proposition, and is inspired by the theme of life that is discussed in After All. Through guided improvisation, fun physical movements tasks and practice on creativity, what the participants are going to investigate are:
The sense of presence and the fragility of the body
Imagination and the sense of ritual
Self expression through movements and sounds
The workshop is for anyone who is interested in bodily expressions—everyone is welcomed, no matter you are a dancer, an actor, a creator, or simply an ordinary person who is curious about the idea of ‘talking through your body’. What you should take with you is your dedication, inclusiveness and a playful heart.
After a break, the discussion will be held in a more relaxing and inclusive way. Together with local guests, Solène will carry out exchanges on topics including death, grief, and memory—this is not only an extension on the workshop experience, but also is a sincere conversation between the audience and the artist. The discussion will be opened to a wider range of audience groups (up to 50 people), and everyone who is interested in the theme of the play is welcomed.
